ROSPA GOLD Medal awards are presented to companies that have demonstrated a genuine commitment to achieving excellence in health
and safety over a five year period, setting a positive example to others.
In 2005 Trinity Mirror were awarded their first ROSPA Occupational Health and Safety Award for its performance in the three years leading up to December 2004. In this period the number of reportable accidents was substantially reduced as a result of local and group Health and Safety initiatives.
May 2009 saw Trinity Mirror being awarded an unprecedented 5th consecutive ROSPA Occupational Health and Safety Award.
Trinity Mirror continues to shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Entering the awards scheme reinforces the message that good health and safety is good for business, and clearly demonstrates an organisations dedication to improvement in this crucial area.

Major Injury and Over 3 day injury are technical terms used in RIDDOR. A major injury tends to be one involving a broken or fractured bone, or in patient treatment in hospital for more than 24 hours. An over 3 day injury is one preventing the injured person working normally for more than 3 days
Ongoing Health & Safety work continues:
All Trinity Mirror Printing sites hold or are working toward OHSAS 18001
Group Health and Safety Forum established to allow Health and Safety Managers to work together, sharing knowledge, experience and good practice. Members are also involved in promoting a common approach to Health and Safety through new and updated policies and procedures.
New policies and procedures relating to the selection and control of contractors and the management of engineering and construction projects introduced.
In addition to the ongoing programme of workplace safety inspections, health and safety audits carried out at each of the print sites. These audits help to improve and maintain standards and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
Specialist consultant led programme of building surveys to identify the location and condition of asbestos containing materials completed, resulting in asbestos registers for buildings containing asbestos. Training provided for local Building Service Managers so that they are competent to manage in this area.
Arrangements for safety during all work at height reviewed to ensure conformity with the Working at Height Regulations 2005. Where appropriate risk assessments and systems of work improved and staff given safety briefings.
